Scott McConkey, Commercial Banking, Business Development Officer
Joining Texas Hill Country Bank after spending the last ten years as an entrepreneur, Scott McConkey worked in the energy industry for over 25 years before becoming a real estate investor. Now Commercial Banking Business Development Officer with the bank, Scott is excited to work with Hill Country entrepreneurs on their journeys toward business growth. He shares why he is inspired by fellow Hill Country residents, what his hobbies are outside of work, and his involvement in the Fredericksburg community that he is proud to call home.

What is your experience and career background?

I am a graduate of UT Austin, BA Economics and Baylor University, MBA Marketing / Finance. My professional career began in the energy industry, having spent over 25 years in various positions in commercial management, business development and sales. Working predominantly in Texas and Louisiana, I was also fortunate to serve on international assignments living in both Scotland and Brazil. For most of the last 10 years, my business career has been as an entrepreneur, obtaining my Real Estate license and actively investing in Real Estate in San Antonio, Fredericksburg and the Hill Country.

What do you enjoy most about commercial banking? What gives you energy about your role?

I have been on the consumer side of banking and have experience with the challenges of financing and running a small business. I am now excited to be on the provider side of banking and to be in a position to help individuals and Hill Country businesses and individuals grow and prosper.

What is distinct about Fredericksburg-area entrepreneurs?

Hill Country and Fredericksburg entrepreneurs are hard working, productive, down to earth members of a special community in the most beautiful part of the great state of Texas. I am proud to be one of them!

What are your activities and hobbies outside of work?

Besides spending time with my wife Merry, our children and grandchildren, and enjoying our life in the Texas Hill Country, I enjoy everything outdoors—hiking, kayaking, cycling, golf, hunting and working weekends on my John Deere tractor.

Which community organizations are you involved with?

I am involved in a variety of community organizations including, the Kerrville Board of Realtors, Central Hill Country Board of Realtors, Texas Alliance of Land Brokers, Fredericksburg STR Alliance, American Petroleum Institute, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Texas Exes Alumni Association and USA Triathlon.

What inspires you about working in Fredericksburg?

The people, the entrepreneurial spirit and atmosphere of Fredericksburg right in the heart of the Texas Hill Country.
